Jewel Buchanan-Boone

Jewel Buchanan-Boone, also known as honeyb(adger), is a renaissance woman living and loving in Oakland, California. A Jewel of All Trades, honeyb is a birthworker, writer, artist, and educator who dreams of making the world a brighter place through work that speaks to her soul. As a Black, queer, full-spectrum birthworker, Jewel pursues doula work from a spiritual and public health perspective, addressing the need to break cycles of lateral violence within communities, relating to generational trauma and stigmas surrounding Black motherhood.

Her work is deeply rooted in the celebration of Black womanhood, the reclamation of Black personhood, and reclaiming ancestral birthing traditions to make this work accessible to everyone. A Priestess of the Throat Chakra, honeyb loves creating brave spaces to have controversial conversations. She is a passionate writer and storyteller, who believes the power of birth also lives in the stories that surround it; that to change our culture of birth means to change the ways in which we speak about and create around all aspects of our reproductive journeys.

In her personal practice, honeyb works with folks during life's transformations through exploring their feelings, informing their options, and affirming their choices in birthing the best versions of themselves. Jewel has been featured in interviews with ATTN, Oaklandside, and the Oakland Better Birth Foundation; Her writing can be found in Birthwork as Care Work, around the Internet, and mostly on Facebook. When she’s not politicking around the state of birthing in Amerikkka, honeyb can be found teaching her Dance Baby Down workshops, making placenta art, or perched on the porch with her cat, B.
