Okra is a staple in the African Diaspora. Many of us have memories of enjoying okra with good gumbo, stew, succotash, and other dishes, but did you know that this African vegetable is loaded with nutrients that can dramatically improve your health?

  2. Okra is rich with fiber, Vitamin B, Vitamin C, and Folic Acid

  5. Okra has also been known to support in lowering blood sugar levels and is a great vegetable to add to your diet if you have been diagnosed with diabetes

If you’re not a fan of Okra or you don’t care for the slimy texture, Okra water is a great option to benefit from all the nutrients Okra has to offer without the unpleasant texture.

So How Do We Make Okra Water?:

The recipe for Okra water is very simple! With a few steps, you’ll be drinking Okra water in no time. 

The Recipe 

Ingredients

4-6 Okra pods

8oz of water

Instructions

  1. Take 4-6 Okra pods and clean them. Note: You can cut the okra tips or leave the okra pods whole, it’s a matter of personal preference. If you choose to cut the Okra down the middle or chop it into slices, it may have a more bitter taste 

  2. Place the Okra pods into a mason jar or any container you would use to store drinks (a bottle, jug, etc.)

  3. Pour 8oz of water into the container with the okra. 

  4. Let sit overnight

  5. In the morning remove the okra from the water and strain the water just in case there are any seeds 

  6. Enjoy!
